lyrics

Crooked smile flashes cross these lonely crowded streets he never takes his life for granted or forgets a face he meets
Sitting on the sidewalk with pad of paper and dripping pen he’s busy taking observations of what he’s seen and where he’s been
He pulls out a worn down six string and he plays a quiet tune his words are muffled in this madness lost in the shadow of the moon
But still he keeps on playing though his message is never heard he’s got to try to pass his wisdom he’s got to try to spread the Word

He’s a poet in his spirit he’s a lover in his soul to the rest he’s something different they neglect to see the whole
But if they ever stopped to listen instead of tossing lonely dimes they’d know he wasn’t just a Ghost Man haunting fourth and pine

He sings “the world is moving faster but we’re doing less every day I’ve come to you as a messenger I’ve come to take your fear away
Just walk with me and I’ll show you how to get yourself back on the road please don’t turn away from me I’ve come to take you home”
But tired faces pass him by lost in superficial dreams they scream God damn this hellish place and God damn all the pain it brings
And though he’s scrawling out the answer and he’s pouring out his soul there are never ears to hear the words of a prophet who’s growing old
